ADD ADULT SELF HELP SUPPORT GROUP
FOR ADD/ADHD ADULTS
AND THEIR SIGNIFICANT OTHERS
MEETING: THE NEXT MEETING OF THE ADD ADULT SELF HELP SUPPORT GROUP WILL BE ON FEBRUARY 26, 2009 AT 7:30 PM AT MONMOUTH MEDICAL CENTER, LONG BRANCH, NJ. GO TO THE MAIN RECEPTION DESK AND GET DIRECTIONS. The Topic Of the Meeting Will Be Accepting Yourself When All Around You Are Rejecting You and Blaming the Rejection On YOU!!!
RESEARCH: In a research study by L.Zylowska etal., Mindfulness meditation training in adults and adolescents with AD/HD: A feasibility study. Journal of Attention Disorders, 2008, 11(6): 737-746, it was reported that it was quite feasible for ADDers, adolescents and adults, to learn mindfulness meditation and find improvement in their ADD symptoms. Not only did the eight week group report ADD improvements in attention and inhibition, but also they reported reductions in anxiety and depressive symptoms.
COMMENTS: Data are coming in from several directions now validating the power of mindfulness for healing ADD. There are two very good references for those of you interested in self help approaches. One: Jon Kabat-Zinn, Wherever You Go There You Are. Two: Thich Nhat Hanh, Peace Is Every Step. Jon's work is available on CD and tapes. One bit of advice if you chose to accept this challenge is that you seek Mindfulness approaches such as found in the Buddhist traditions. They are not religious meditations and will keep you in the present not locked into superfocus or distracted when you want to be aware and attentive.
PEACE!!!
Bob
