ADD ADULT SELF HELP SUPPORT GROUP

FOR ADD/ADHD ADULTS

AND THEIR SIGNIFICAN OTHERS

MEETING: THE NEXT MEETING OF THE  ADD ADULT SELF HELP SUPPORT GROUP WILL BE ON Thursday MAY 28, 2009 AT 7:45 PM AT MONMOUTH MEDICAL CENTER, LONG BRANCH, NJ. GO TO THE MAIN RECEPTIONDESK AND GET DIRECTIONS.  THIS WILL BE THE LAST MEETING UNTIL September 24th.  We will also meet 10/22/09, 11/19/09, 12/17/09.  The topic of this month’s meeting will be :Alternative ADD/ADHD treatments.

RESEARCH: In a summary of a research article by McNab,F. Etal in Science, 2009; 323:800-802, Changes in Cortical Dopamine D1 Receptor Binding Associated with Cognitive Training, the images editor of the Am.J.Psychiatry, 2009, 166(5): 515-516 showed the remarkable changes in the brains of 13 volunteers who undertook 35 minutes of working memory training for 5 weeks.  D1 dopamine but not D2 dopamine showed a strong relationship with the training.

COMMENTS: Here is yet another bit of evidence that the brain can actually change its structure and function with training.  Since working memory is a major problem with ADD/ADHD, these studies suggest that ADDers might consider using some of the working memory training programs and activities to improve their ADD/ADHD symptoms.

ARTICLE: In an article by Nola Lopez, The ADD-Friendly Diet, in ADDITUDE, 2009, 9(4): 42-43, the foods, supplements, and herbs were discussed including: protein, balanced meals, multivitamin/multiminerals, B vitamins, Zn, Fe, & Mg, Omega-3s, Picamilon, Ginkgo and Ginseng, Pycnogenol, and Rhodiola Rosea.

PEACE!!!
